Bur Hakaba is facing an increasing risk of famine between April and June 2026, threatening the lives and livelihoods of thousands of vulnerable people. In response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation, humanitarian partners are strengthening preparedness and coordination efforts to ensure timely and effective emergency assistance reaches affected communities.
A joint mission comprising representatives from the Operational Cell (ABCs), United Nations agencies,
International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs), and Local NGOs visited Bur Hakaba to assess humanitarian access conditions and identify priority areas for intervention. The mission focused on enhancing coordination, improving access to vulnerable populations, and ensuring that emergency responses are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the needs of those most at risk.
As part of the visit, humanitarian partners conducted an Access Mapping Session, bringing together key stakeholders to analyze operational challenges, identify access constraints, and explore practical solutions for delivering life-saving assistance. Discussions covered humanitarian access routes, security considerations, population vulnerabilities, service gaps, and coordination mechanisms necessary for an effective response.
The exercise underscored the importance of collaboration among humanitarian actors, local authorities, and community representatives in addressing barriers that may hinder aid delivery. The findings will inform ongoing response planning and support evidence-based decision-making as partners prepare for potential worsening food security conditions in the district.
Humanitarian organizations remain committed to working collectively to mitigate the impact of the crisis, protect vulnerable populations, and ensure that assistance reaches those most in need. Continued coordination, resource mobilization, and timely action will be critical in preventing further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Bur Hakaba.
