Baidoa | June 17, 2026 – SVMC participated in the monthly WASH Cluster Meeting, organized by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the South West State of Somalia in Baidoa.

The meeting brought together humanitarian organizations and WASH partners working alongside the Ministry to strengthen coordination and improve the delivery of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services across South West State.

During the meeting, participants discussed strategic plans to expand access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services to all districts and communities throughout the region. They also reviewed the key challenges affecting WASH service delivery and explored practical solutions through stronger collaboration between government institutions and humanitarian partners.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Director of the Water Department at the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of South West State, Mr. Liban Aw Khalif, briefed participants on a recent joint field mission to Burhakaba District. The mission was carried out by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, UNICEF, and representatives from the Ministry of Health of South West State.

According to the Director, the mission focused on assessing the conditions of water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and health services in Burhakaba District. The assessment aimed to identify priority needs, evaluate existing services, and strengthen coordinated interventions that improve access to essential WASH and health services for local communities.

SVMC remains committed to supporting coordinated humanitarian and development initiatives that promote sustainable access to safe water, improved sanitation, and good hygiene practices, while working closely with government institutions, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners to improve the well-being and resilience of vulnerable communities across South West State of Somalia.
