The Ministry of Health of the South West State of Somalia today held a coordination meeting on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) activities. The meeting discussed overall performance and strengthened collaboration between government and international organizations working in the WASH sector.

The meeting, chaired by the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Adam Ali, was attended by some of the directors of departments and staff of the Ministry, as well as partner organizations engaged in water, sanitation, and hygiene activities. Participants contributed to discussions and strategic planning aimed at improving community services, particularly WASH interventions.

The focus was placed on improving sanitation and hygiene services for communities, especially in areas with high numbers of internally displaced people (IDPs); ensuring coordination of WASH plans and activities implemented by the Ministry and its partners; preventing communicable diseases by ensuring the delivery of effective sanitation services; and increasing community awareness on hygiene and sanitation practices to reduce the spread of infectious diseases.
